One of the many mysterious features of the present mobilization of United States troops here has been the rapid recruiting of the various regiments. "Raw recruits" have been sent here in large numbers and are being drilled daily by sergeants and corporals. The group cut herewith shows an "awkward squad" under instruction and also Colonel Plummer of the Twenty-eighth infantry, whose regiment has received many of the new men for purposes of training. It is hard to tell just why Seaver's Laxative Tonic Tablets have become so popular with most people, but considering the short time they have been advertised, the demand for them has been cause for wonder. They are no different in appearance from other laxative tablets, but they really must possess unusual merits, for from our own personal observation we know that they always do just what is expected of them. Their action upon the skin and complexion is remarkable, for the principal ingredient in them is extract of dandelion and your own doctor will tell you that dandelion is one of the greatest skin alteratives known to the profession. If your bowels are inactive, your skin sallow, your tongue coated and if you are troubled with pimples or bilious spells, a 25 cents box of Seaver's Laxative Tonic Tablets will clear up your complexion, tone up the liver, encourage the action of your bowels and make you feel well again or Ter-bell-Calkins Drug Co.

Wellsville citizens have decided to reconsider the acceptance of the new public library, and by a storm of signed petitions have secured another vote on the question of acceptance of the $25,000 gift of David A. Howe.

The village board has set the new election for April 11. The opposition to the acceptance of the public library on the grounds that the proposed charter called for a permanent trustee from the pastorate of the Congregational church of Wellsville, of which church Mr. Howe was a member, has been removed by the acting board of trustees and. the new charter will not include any provision for a clergyman on the board of trustees. Than Seem 99 REGISTERED BY REGENTS The Elmira Business Institute Receives Recognition by the State Board of Regents. Elmira, X.

April 1. It will be of special interest to the young people of Elmira and vicinity to learn that the courses taught at the Elmira Business Institute are now recognized by the state as good for a certain number of regents counts. To all graduates of the shorthand course the State Board will issue 15 regents counts, and to graduates of the business course the same number, and as an additional favor the State Board accepts the diploma of the Elmira Business Institute, instead of requiring the student to take the regents examination. This concession made by the State Department of Education is the best evidence of the superiority of the institution given at the E. B.

I. The regents counts earned by students of the E. B. I. will be applied on certificates issued by the regents, such as law, medicine, and will be accepted by all public schools of the state.

A student who attends the E. B. I. can earn as many regents counts as he can obtain in the same length of time, by attending a public school, and without taking the regents examinations; at the some time he is securing a practical education that will enable him to hold a position in any business office at a good salary. In fact, the Employment Department of the school secures good positions for all graduates and we are informed that last year they had 159 calls for office assistants, which could not be supplied.

Few people realize the strength of the Elmira Business Institute. It is a union of three of the best business schools of the state, Roberts' Shorthand College, Warner's Business School, established 53 years, and Meeker's Elmira School of Commerce, established 31 years. The Institute has over 15,000 graduates and an equipment costing $10,000. Students are taught from a real office plan, installed under the personal supervision of Mr. Meeker, the president of the Institute, who has been a public auditor and accountant for ten years, and his ideas of surrounding tbe student with the same office appliances and methods that are used in the real business office have raised the Institute far above the level of the high school and ordinary business school courses.

To this real office training is due to the fact that E. B. I. students are securing positions in New York City, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo. One young man has recently been piaced in Florida and another expects to leave soon for Oklahoma City.

All visitors who would like to learn about the advantages of the courses offered by the Elmira Business Institute will be cordially received at the office, 24 W. Water St. ACCOMMODATING When Tom Johnson, for many years mayor of Cleveland and all that, started in life he drove a horsecar in Indianapolis. One night there was a big storm of sleet and snow and the tracks were almost hidden. Johnson was on the night shift, and in the storm he drove his car two blocks beyond a curve before he realized the car was off the tracks and slipping along on the ice.

He tried to pull the car back and failed. Thereupon he unhitched the horses, drove them back to the barn and left the car where it was. Next day the superintendent called him. "Here, Johnson," he said, "what do you mean by driving a car off the track and then leaving it in the street? "Why," Johnson replied suavely, "that's in the rules for drivers and conductors." "In the rules for drivers and conductors!" roared the superintendent. "Where I'd like to know?" "Certainly," replied Johnson.

"It says always to be polite to passengers. Do you remember the kind of a night last night was? Well, there was a lady on my car who didn't have an umbrella and she lived two blocks from that curve. So I drove her home." Philadelphia Saturday Evening Post. MISSED HIS VOCATION A young Philadelphian became involved recently in a suit to recover Certain amounts of a legacy and knowing nothing of the way of procedure, left the entire affair in his lawyer's hands. The lawyer won the case, took charge of all the details, refrained from bothering the young plaintiff, and when it was all over he sent in his bill. When the client saw it he put on his hat and journeyed fstraightway from his home in Germantown to the lawyer's office in the Land Title Building. He entered the attorney's office, bill in hand.

"I just came to tell you that you've missed your vocation," he "You oughtn't to be a lawyer. You ought to be a general in some army that is in constant service." The lawyer looked up, uncertain as to whether or not he should appear pleased. "Why so?" he inquired pleasantly. The client shrugged his shoulders.
